and not the normal shoes i tend to go for: high, pointy, bright in hue, dare i say...sexy (if not sexy, then moderately trendy).
nope. almost the total opposite.
they were, uh, how do you say... sensible. (ew, right?) flat. wide. they even had this strange thing on the sole. i think it's called a 'tread.' and in the most offensive of colors, a muted, generic army green. there was even ventilation to prevent overheating.
great. just great.
in my defense, i did aim for a different pair in the beginning. a great pair of boots that were black, light grey and red. full of stark contrasts (what i generally go for). they were, unfortunately, meant for cold weather. and despite my noted disdain for the ventilation system of said pair, i hate, hate, hate to have hot feet.
so, to be able to deal with the hiking that would happen in alaska - sidebar, it is possible to enjoy cute shoes AS WELL AS THE GREAT OUTDOORS. hard to believe but true - something sensible had to be purchased.
so it happened. the pair of keens, size 8, were purchased. the purchaser, H, beamed, from ear to ear, at me as we exited the store.
the transformation had begun.
